Tiramisu at Alexis, Bangsar

For as long as I could remember, ever since I was a young girl up till when I moved to London when I was 19 I had the same birthday cake every year. I would be presented with a deliciously decadent monster of what is definitely the best tiramisu in Kuala Lumpur, from Alexis in Bangsar.

Cognac and coffee soaked lady fingers layered with the fluffiest mascarpone cream topped with sweet, crunchy, caramelised pecans, served with a dreamy puddle of strawberry sauce...it tastes like the things my teenage dreams are made of.

Even now, after all these years, I have to have my fix whenever I'm back in K.L. One bite and I am transported back to the excitement of my birthday, when the box would make it's appearance, that first glorious bite, stashing it in the fridge and eating my way down to the last slice. It would take me almost two weeks to eat the whole thing by myself---when it comes to this tiramisu, I don't share---and somehow even after a week it tastes as amazing as the first, fresh, bite. If anything it gets better when it's been in the fridge for a while.

It's four in the morning and typing this has made me so hungry that I've made Sheena-chan cook Maggi Mee for us. This is the catalyst for cellulite. Nevermind, I have Photoshop. I hear the Liquify diet does wonders.

“One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art.” One of my favourite quotes by Oscar Wilde, I often used it as a convenient rebuke during my 'art school fauxhemian' days whenever anyone derided my questionable sartorial choices.

Guirado Design scarves are the best of both options, being literal works of art---Spanish surrealist Juan Antonio Guirado's paintings reworked by his daughter Catalina---to be worn. Wilde would be proud.

I brought my two new scarves up to the sky beach on the roof of Verve Suites. It was an overcast day and the skies were not a dazzling blue but rather a hazy grey as city skies tend to be. An occupational hazard that comes with a beach on the top of a tower, oh the perils of urban life.

Stock images. Happiness = expectation - reality.

But I barely noticed the gloomy weather, I was too distracted by the dazzling colours of the scarves and the mesmerising textures that brought to mind reflections on water, agate, and marble.

Thank you Guirado Design for bringing this bit of beauty in my life.

Guirado Design scarves, wallpaper, and prints are available to buy at The Clerkenwell Collection, a gorgeous little gallery and retail space in Farringdon that also carries other brands; among them Bespoke HQ suits, jewellery, Bailey Nelson glasses, and also does wine tastings.

Dream studios & workspaces.

Goodbye, beloved fixer upper, my first ever artist studio. You were my first (hiding from the Central St Martins janitors at closing time to stay overnight and paint in the illustration studios don't count) and our brief but frequent dalliances have given me a taste of the luxury of having a workspace that isn't my living room, a desk in an office, or a corner of my flat. C'est la catalyst. I want an artist's studio! And what does one who is Posh, Broke, & Bored do when one wants something beyond their means? Scour Pinterest and Tumblr for photos of studios and spaces one wants in the hope that that effort alone will nudge the universe into delivering (hands up if you think The Secret is the greatest discovery for the lazy and wanting!). Or post your desire for one all over social media in the hope that someone will see one's post and go "Hey, I have a warehouse conversion/loft with huge sash windows, a skylight, an exposed brick wall, three white walls, ceilings as high as a cathedral, AND it comes with heating! For free!"  Hey, it can't hurt to put yourself out there. You don't ask you don't get. Here are some artist studios and workspaces I've been quivering over.

A glimpse into my equivalent of a secret porn folder.

Bermondsey Beckons: José

Eager to eat my way through Bermondsey Street before I give up my artist's studio (that's a story for another time) I had lunch yesterday at José, the sister restaurant of Pizarro

José came highly recommended---now this is what Twitter is for!---plus Senor Pizarro himself was so lovely and friendly on Twitter, how could I not pop in for some tapas? Besides, I love tapas, it is essentially what I already do anyway, ordering several starters instead of a main.

Kokon To Zai aftershow party

Goodbye fashion week--- sorry, London Collections: Men ---it's been fun.

Ben Sherman VIP party at The London Edition.

I will not pretend that this blog post has any intellectual substance. Rather I embrace the fact that it is merely a vehicle for tipsy, narcissistic, Fashion Week selfies.

I just got home from the Ben Sherman VIP party at The London Edition (where I spend most of my life, second only to Duck & Waffle) and you might be wondering why the need to blog before bedtime photos you took only hours ago? To which I say; blogging should be instant, if I were to wait two-three days before publishing an event I might as well quit the internet and start a print magazine. I'm sure everyone wants to read about a party weeks after it happens. If you're not going to be consistent just stick to print media.

Ada + Nik: AW 14/15 'THE DARK WOLF'

Perplexed by the flurry of slender, black-clad, ambiugously-gendered figures in hats, cape-like coats, leather jackets, and wedged brothel creepers (not necessarily worn in that order) flapping around New Oxford Street like stylish ravens? Don't be. London Collections: Men started yesterday, which would account for the surge of 'fashion people' milling from Somerset House to Tottenham Court Road.

Yesterday I covered Ada + Nik's AW 14/15 'THE DARK WOLF'; from backstage photos, to rehearsals, the show itself, and the after show party for my friend Jay's website The Arcadia.

Welcome, 2014.

I have decided to do away with resolutions all together---imagination outranks reality in every way and likewise outcomes may not always live up to expectations which in turn sets one up for disappointment---so instead of setting black & white resolutions I endeavour to make gradual lifestyle changes. One of them is 'do something different that people don't expect of you' so with that in mind I thought I'd spend New Year's Eve both in Essex and in London.
