What's In My Handbag: Gucci Lilith, London limited edition

What's In My Handbag: Gucci Lilith, London limited edition

We've all established that I don't do things by half. Even the very act of subtlety is an elaborate exercise in measured nonchalance and curated casualness - dressing normcore? Let me just style my hair and put on some red lipstick...yeah, you get the drill. It's not that I'm especially fussy nor high-maintenance *cues shouts of Yes, you are!* but rather, even in my most slovenly state there is somehow still a theatrical air about me. I attribute it to being twice as catty; that is, having both Western and Eastern stars of the feline persuasion, being both a Tiger by the Chinese zodiac and a lion (Leo) by horoscope. When you're born under the two most attention-seeking astrology signs, being a wilting wallflower is not an option - you go big or go home.

Twice the cattiness, twice the tigers - this handbag, a London limited edition of the Gucci Lilith, is only too appropriate. I've been seeking the perfect red handbag to match my favourite lipstick and nail polish, and I had very specific criteria - large enough to fit my Canon 6D yet ornamental enough to pass for a "useless but pretty" purse (that I may carry my camera to dressy events), and of course the design had to be as unique as possible. Gucci knocked it out of the park with this baby - the glossy box calf leather is just the right shade of lacquer red, the embroidered patches are of my favourite city and my spirit animal, plus with only 27 ever made  - "That's 27 too many..." muttered a (male) friend - this limited edition feels all the more special. The perfect present to find underneath my Christmas tree. Throw in a deceptively spacious interior - it fits my DSLR with more than enough room to spare - and I'm in love. Ladies and gentlemen (mostly ladies), please meet Lilith...

THANK YOU AFTAB FOR PHOTOS 1, 2, & 8

My grey Prada Saffiano is one of my personal classics. I've seen handbags---designer, high-street, vintage---come and go through the figurative revolving doors of my wardrobe. In fact, at any given time only less than 20 out of 50 or so handbags remain in my permanent collection. The rest are either on rotation between mummy and I, or are borrowed from good friends, or destined to be given away much to the delight of my friends. But...! This hero bag, the Saffiano, is very much a fixture in my life. The grey is a classic and versatile colour; glacial in winter, transitional in autumn, unexpected in summer, pale and pretty in spring. The simple and structured shape is ingenious in all its minimality. The many compartments inside are the key to keeping the contents of my purse (all 5kg of it) organised and myself from tipping over into a hysterical breakdown every time I need to fish for lipstick or a business card. Many say that black is a true classic. I don't know if that's true for me. By now you know of the story about how I gave up wearing purple, burgundy, and black when my fortune teller told me that those were my three unlucky colours. Happily dove grey is lucky for me and so are pastels. Now I carry this baby, in a beautiful shade of taupe, on my arm safe in my superstitious mind that the colour will protect me from harm, and if not the colour at least my stupidly heavy handbag will double as an excellent weapon against unsolicited amorous gestures. x

What's In My Handbag: Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama

I'm a huge fan of Louis Vuitton and especially their collaboration collections. I've shown you my piece from their Christian Louboutin collaboration and one of my handbags from the Yayoi Kusama collection, and on Monday I blogged about my other Yayoi Kusama handbag which I dubbed 'The Ladybird' for its delightful yellow polka-dotted body. Since my last What's In My Handbag post I've updated the contents of my purse with some lovely floral additions for Spring, so I thought I'd do another handbag post and introduce you properly to Ladybird.

What's In My Handbag: Louis Vuitton x Christian Louboutin

I'm a huge fan of Louis Vuitton (how could I not be when they spoil me with gifts and parties?) especially their artist collaborations which not only makes their handbags even more collectible but also distinguishes their limited editions from their basic monogrammed bags. Every special edition this illustrious French luggage label designs is presented ahead of its release in Kuala Lumpur to mummy for her consideration (as Louis Vuitton in K.L only import small numbers of each design for exclusivity reasons).  When the Louis Vuitton x Christian Louboutin collaboration was announced, mummy ordered the shopping tote for our collection. It was only when I got back to K.L in February that I got to finally see our new baby in person, which I'm thrilled to show you together with some of my latest acquisitions, in a What's In My Handbag post...!

How I fell in love with a lady in red.

When it comes to handbag related promiscuity I think I fall squarely in the range between bag whore (in the words of Michiekins "Semua pun mau") and fairly committed. I'm neither the fashion victim who buys twelve variations of the It-bag à la mode to stay relevant on Instagram *cough* Celine luggage knock offs from China *cough* (on that note why do so many 'strivers' carry fake designer labels? They're just broadcasting their aspiration, or should I say, desperation to the world) nor am I the practical Parisian who's used the same Birkin all her life. No, when it comes to my baggage I go the rather midway route of buying merely one new piece a season and making it my hero bag. Or in this care, heroine...

Easy Style hack - How to turn any handbag into a camera bag

Posh Broke Bored - Make your own stylish camera bag

How does a stylish woman reconcile her love for fashionable handbags with her need to carry heavy camera equipment? Ah, that enduring blogger conundrum (don't say 'Emasculate your boyfriend into being your full-time camera monkey'). Shock, surprise, but yes, you can carry a limited edition Lady Dior handbag on a day out with your girlfriends with a camera, two lenses, a stack of business cards, two polarising filters, AND your other everyday bits and bobs! The solution is so painfully obvious, that I can't believe it's taken me so many months of letting my Canon 600D get knocked about in my purse and my lenses wrapped in scarves to protect them from getting scratched.

My Top 10 Luxury Highlights of November

November is easily my favourite month of this year so far, mostly because I feel like I've reclaimed my life.

What's In My Bag; Taupe and Mint.

Of all the many small victories that enrich my life (end of the day slashed prices at Waitrose, shoving my size 7 feet into a 6.5 shoe, shopping on The Outnet, waiting time for an Uber is less than 2 minutes etc.) none is so triumphant as pulling together a new handbag and refreshing its contents for a new season. Last winter I had an affair with a lady in red, my Sofia Coppola but decided that Spring should be a much more neutral but no less muted affair. I love my mum's taupe Saffiano but had to begrudgingly hand it back to her, so imagine my delight when I found a not entirely dissimilar version by H&M! Cheap as chips too, at £35. Of course for that price I could easily buy a knock-off Prada Saffiano but you know what my thoughts are on that. So whatever I saved from buying H&M instead of Hermes I allowed myself to spend on changing the contents of my purse, from wallet to iPad case to *ahem* a new camera.

My new work bag for Spring. As well as everything in the picture above I also managed to squeeze in my macbook, my macbook charger, my travel documents, a jumper, and a few magazines. Lugged it all onto my flight back to Kuala Lumpur and surprise surprise, it fit in my seat's side compartment (beneath the window)! Impressed.

What's In My Camera Bag | My Camera Lenses & Guide to Prime Lenses

Today's post follows the 'Useful & Beautiful' theme of Posh, Broke, & Bored in which I share tips and hacks that could well be useful for your photography, blogging, or to just 'win at life'. So yes, that's useful, but how is it beautiful? Well! I'll illustrate my knowledge with ocular crack/eye candy from the five different countries I've been to this year - Latvia, UK, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand. For this blog post about my camera lenses I've put together an eclectic gallery of photos - travel, street photography, portraits, food, wildlife etc. - taken by both Henry and I. A few of these you may recognise from recent blog posts but most of them are f-f-fresh off the boat, so even if you're not a budding blogger looking to level up your photography and learn more about camera lenses, you can just enjoy this post as 'Postcards from Kuala Lumpur'.

Chiggas in Chateau / Pt. Deux

What's up, buttercup?

Despite not getting very much sleep at all (the story of my life; I just want to make nice things and get enough sleep, is that too much to ask?) I managed to rise early the next morning. Here's something I wish I knew when I was in college: waking up early is almost always worth it. After one powers through the initial excruciating start (for me it lasts as least an hour, I am not a morning person) and gets the ball rolling; hours just fly by, tasks get tackled with lightning effeciency, and lunchtime is greeted with a satisfaction that is almost like a drug. It's an amazing high that can last all day and do wonders for one's paradigm! Oh my God, I just wrote a whole paragraph on the joys of starting the day early, I am officially old.

Unboxing Day: A Sneak Peek at My Christmas Haul

Look, today I'm not even going to try to English - I know that most of you come, you see the pictures; you conquer or rather, close tab. Besides, I'm knackered. Perhaps it's the exhaustion of hauling ass from dawn to dusk volunteering at the local homeless shelter on Christmas Day. Maybe it's from attempting a 60 person-strong Mannequin Challenge during a boozy Christmas dinner. Possibly from running around London on Boxing Day to make the most of the Pokemon Go Christmas event (plot twist: Niantic makes Santa-hat-wearing-Pikachu the new norm. Trainers who transferred their hatless Pikachu to make room before hoarding festive 'Chus as collectibles weep en masse).

Whatever it is, I've got a cold, which I'm sure is appropriate on some level because 2016 has been a real clustercuss of a year and that bitch just won't quit. Much like my favourite present this Christmas: a very loud, so terrible-it's-amazing Gucci Lilith handbag in a very limited edition - only 27 in the world, and only available in-store so if you fancy one head down to the flagship on Bond Street. I'm rather less taken by the Gucci loafers, but I've included them for posterity anyway before exchanging them for a Harrods Gift Card (see what I swapped them for on my Dayre microblog).

Fun little stocking stuffers - festive Yankee Candles that smell uncannily like Christmas trees and candy canes, a little Fendi purse, an Anya Hindmarch Rubik's Cube I forgot to actually take a photo of for this post (see, I told you I'm tired) - padded out an otherwise sparse Christmas present haul. You'll have no complain from me otherwise.

The bird-song outside my window (the poor buggers are confused by the city's light pollution, it's only three in the morn...) is my cue to turn in for the night. I'll do a proper 'What's In My Handbag' post to get you acquainted with Lilith, but for now I leave you with photos of my Christmas present haul, sans witty repertoire because a) I'm tired and ill and b) does anyone actually read this anyway? If you do, comment below: "I am the Loch Ness monster".
How was your Christmas? What did you get up to? Were you naughty or nice?
What did Santa slip in your stocking, the dirty devil?
