The Morocco Diaries, Part 9 of 10: How Argan Oil is Made - From Tree-Climbing Goats to Women's Cooperatives

How Argan Oil is Made - From Tree-Climbing Goats to Women's Cooperatives in Morocco

Grease me up, buttercup!

THE MOROCCO DIARIES, PART 9 of 10:
THE ARGAN OIL ROUTE FROM
MARRAKECH TO ESSAOUIRA

Argan oil. Blessed liquid gold. The darling of the beauty industry - nourishing, lightweight, and versatile. Ladies in the know use it on their skin, their cuticles, in their hair. Myself, I’ve stopped washing my waist-length hair with conditioner, instead using argan oil on the mid-to-ends to keep my tresses happy. I knew that the best argan oil comes from and is native to Morocco, but I had only the vaguest idea of how it is harvested and produced. So it was rather a treat to visit a women’s cooperative and see the traditional methods used to produce this precious ingredient, buy my beloved argan oil (and other) products straight from the source, as well as witness for myself the legendary tree-climbing goats of Morocco

My 'Asian Beauty' Haul: Hero Skincare products from Korea, Japan, & more

My 'Asian Beauty' Haul: Hero Skincare products from Korea, Japan, and the Far East. Hada Labo, CNP Laboratory, Tony Moly, Bio-Essence, Naruko, Shu Uemura, Laneige, Biore, and more.

It's not all snail slime* and animal face sheet maskshere is my ultimate Asian Beauty haul and my suggestions for beginners wanting to get into Korean and Japanese skincare (and then some), featuring some of the latest most-loved skincare from the Far East.

Sometimes, the greatest finds are right under your nose. It took me nearly three decades of having a skincare routine of water and nothing, then an 'end of my 20s' crisis to scare myself into moisturising my face with something other than Creme de La MEH (aka apathy and last night's makeup), and now finally I've come full circle with Asian Beauty. My last skincare haul back in Winter was inspired by suggestions on r/SkincareAddiction, whereas the this haul are recommendations from r/AsianBeauty: hero products from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore - all of it easily available in the likes of Watson's, Guardian, and Sasa (drugstores commonly found in my native Malaysia). Incidentally, I'm in Kuala Lumpur right now and am sure to load up on even more skincare. For now, let me just get through my latest haul and share why these hero products are must haves for every enthusiast and beginners looking to hop onto the AB (Asian Beauty) skincare train.

*which, BTW, is soooo 10 years ago - it's now all about starfish and horse oil...

My Perfumes & the Travels They Evoke

My perfume collection and the travels that they bring to mind. An olfactory journey to Russia, Italy, Cuba, Vietnam, South Korea, France, and Malaysia. Starring Chanel Cuir de Russie, Tom Ford Neroli Portofino, Creed Virgin Island Water, Tom Ford Champaca Absolute, Dior Leather Oud, Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere, and Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge.

What a suggestive force smell is. It's this sense with all its Pavlovian powers that makes me want to instantly disrobe and lie face down in anticipation of a massage whenever I catch the spa-like whiff of lemongrass (which is why I should probably avoid Thai restaurants). It's why amortentia - the most powerful love potion in the wizarding world - smells to each person of their favourite things. Mine would be: the seats of a new car, fresh paint, and vanilla ice-cream OMG am I pregnant?! Scent leads us down forgotten paths of memories old and transports us to places we'd rather be. This same aspirational quality is why the head honchos of the fragrance industry are probably cackling all the way to the bank in a perfume cloud of Justin Bieber 'Someday' and 'Girlfriend'. Muahahahaha.
In the theme of this month's travel blogger linkup I thought I'd share with you my collection of fragrances and the journeys to faraway lands that they bring to my mind.
