Easy Style hack - How to turn any handbag into a camera bag

Posh Broke Bored - Make your own stylish camera bag

How does a stylish woman reconcile her love for fashionable handbags with her need to carry heavy camera equipment? Ah, that enduring blogger conundrum (don't say 'Emasculate your boyfriend into being your full-time camera monkey'). Shock, surprise, but yes, you can carry a limited edition Lady Dior handbag on a day out with your girlfriends with a camera, two lenses, a stack of business cards, two polarising filters, AND your other everyday bits and bobs! The solution is so painfully obvious, that I can't believe it's taken me so many months of letting my Canon 600D get knocked about in my purse and my lenses wrapped in scarves to protect them from getting scratched.

Social (media) Butterfly: How to Grow Your Blog's Wings

Posh, Broke, & Bored hit 1 million pageviews (as of 2013) on Friday when I was on my flight from London to Kuala Lumpur. While I owe the awareness of my blog to a wider audience in the UK (two years ago my readers were predominantly from South East Asia) not to my own machinations but  rather thanks to another blogger's underhanded attempt at slating me - which instead produced the undesired (in their eyes) effect of making me known to their same readership and endearing me to the very detractors that they eventually created for themselves - I can take some credit for the growth of my blog audience in the last few months or so; not just by consistently striving to improve the quality of my content but also by making Posh, Broke, & Bored a little more constant in the consciousness of the readers of the interwebs. I emerged from the cocoon of a keyboard-thumping nobody who didn't even know what a scheduled tweet was, grew some blogging wings, and began my metamorphosis into a metaphorical social media butterfly.

Hello, darkness! Shooting in low light

Today's post addresses a common conundrum that has plagued many a snap happy blogger - how to shoot crisp, clear photos in low light without using a flash. You know the story: you're at a Instagram popular-page pretty event, restaurant, or date, the setting of which is so painfully photogenic that it simply begs to be have its photo taken. Problem: the duskily-lit venue in all its incandescent glow, so ambient in real life, shows up in photos as a dark blob with blurry pinpricks of light, faceless blurs for people, and sometimes colourful streaks of God knows what (very interesting if you're at a rave, but not quite when you're trying to capture a classier scene). Do you: a) pop the camera flash, taking photos that look 'flat' and give the people in them rabid-animal red eyes while possibly irking all else present in the room or b) struggle to hold your camera still (possibly dislocating a rib while holding your breath to keep your hands steady) and despite six hundred attempts still end up with blurry, out of focus shots? It was the latter that I used to struggle with (I have the sore ribs to prove it) until I finally figured out the easy way to take clear photos in dark settings without having to use that obnoxious pop-up flash on my camera. This way, I get clear shots of my subjects (my cocktail, my friends, my Celine purse *ahem*) without sacrificing clarity nor the atmospheric ambience of my softly-lit surroundings. How? Read on...

New (and inadvertent) toys.

Title says it all: I accidentally found myself in possession of 3 new toys; a Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere, iPhone 6, and Canon 600D.

Happy Birthday, Nuffnang UK!

I've been waiting a long time for Nuffnang to spread their wings to the UK.

I stopped writing my first blog when I moved to London to study at St. Martins so that I could focus my (considerably scattered) attention and time on, well, living my life instead of writing about it. This was in 2006. Back then the only real superstar bloggers in South East Asia were Xiaxue and Kenny Sia (who put my blog on the radar just by mentioning me in passing). Nobody foresaw that in the not-so-distant future, pretty twenty-something year old college girls would make five figures just by attending events and writing about face creams from the comfort of their home. Ming and Tim, those visionaries, dreamt it and made it happen. But of course I had to pick that time to move away from Malaysia to England and stop blogging for five years.

As sweet as it is that my best friend is a Nuffnang talent and that I've met some really lovely people at the Nuffnang birthday parties as well as seen old friends really blossom through blogging, I've felt just a little left out that I wasn't part of this little club. I couldn't, I can't be! I don't live in Malaysia anymore, I spend maybe three months a year in K.L.? I pay taxes in England for fish sake. So, when Nuffnang expanded to the far West a year ago and invited me to join their happy UK family, it was a no-brainer. I answered with a resounding yes.

And now, Nuffnang UK is one...! Happy Birthday, Nuffnang UK, and here's to many more happy returns to come.
