'What's In My Handbag' - The minimalist edit

What's In My Handbag - the minimalistic 'marble-inspired' clutch

I have a confession to make  I’ve been purging.

That is, I've just emerged dazed and disoriented from an extreme 'wardrobe diet' inspired by my latest obsession — minimalismYou all know from my Royal Ascot fashion fiasco that I've exiled the entire contents of my closet, leaving me with only triumph and the stark realisation that the only things I have to wear are le boyfriend's clothes. Maybe my deranged decluttering was a 'a one in, one (1000) out policy' reaction to buying a beast of an iMac (funny story, that) but the bare, naked fact remains - your girl has become an accidental minimalist*. Check your weather app  hell hath frozen over.

*How bad is it? Well, I've embraced normcore. Guess who's now the proud owner of boyfriend jeans and seven new plain tees? The end is nigh.

More likely that my new-found minimalism is partly KonMarie's fault, partly inspired by Scandinavian decor blogs (you know —  the 'monochrome, almost-cold-but for the artfully draped grey textile that’s oh-so-invitating' aesthetic). I've extended the clean and pared-down look to my home (especially my desk) and also my wardrobe. My chiropractor will be pleased to know that I've downsized my daily sack o' crap to a clutch I can, you know, actually carry without dislocating my shoulder. Observe...

What's In My Handbag - the minimalistic 'marble-inspired' clutch

This lunch bag-shaped clutch I bought from Zara, in Lisbon. I love how the cracks in the leather is so tactile, almost brittle to the touch, and a subtle take on the marble mania that has swept the blogosphere (and invaded all too many an interior).

WHAT'S IN MY HANDBAG - THE MINIMALIST EDIT

2. Barclays bank card (personalised)
3. Posh, Broke, & Bored business cards
4. Maybelline Color Drama 'Minimalist' lip pencil
5. & Other Stories 'Steel Garden' hand cream
6. iPhone 6 in gold
7. Thin rings, & Other Stories
8. 'Klang' earphones, c/o Sudio Sweden

I’m not saying I’ll do away with my DSLR entirely, but the Olympus Pen E-PL7 'can fight' with my Canon 600D (besides, everyone knows it’s not an expensive camera that makes the pictures; it’s a combination of the lens and the photographer's skill). It's not obvious in these pictures, but my bank card is actually marble print, thanks to the brilliance of Barclay's personalised card designer. And it matches my marble print business cards, dingdingding! How appropriate that my current lip colour is named ‘Minimalist’, from my favourite lip pencils (and decent Nars dupe) Maybelline Colour Drama.  Speaking of minimalism, how refined is & Other Stories' packaging? The 'Steel Garden' hand cream doesn't just smell divine — the subtle grey blob on the tube matches my monochrome mania and reminds me of my days at art school. Discreet and elegant design is the name of the game at & Other Stories — their thin rings are so light, I barely feel them.

Finally, some Scandinavian chic courtesy of Sudio. While I'm not quite ready to commit to a full-on minimal, monochrome lifestyle (those Swedes make it look so effortless!), the KLANG earphones in all its mostly-handcrafted glory is a huge upgrade over my now-grimy iPhone buds. Whether worn like an accessory around my neck (thanks to the snazzy stay-in ear feature) or stashed ever so sleekly in its matching leather pouch (which also fits my marble-print bank card and a business card or two!), my new ear buddies not only up my style game and delivers music like it was meant to be heard ie. so true to life that I jump when listening to the Apocalypse Now soundtrack, but the name also reminds me of my home-city, Klang Valley. Represent.

There you have it; the minimalist contents of my purse du jour. Only time will tell if I embrace The Simple Life or find it The Unbearable Lightness Of Being, but for now, I'm enjoying this breath of fresh air. x

  9. YES Amber! I love the Le Dix but it looks a BIT too small for me (I know, even with the minimalism phase) :( But I might get the clutch! x

It's so gorgeous. And to be honest, it being in the style of something related to food makes it even more awesome! Ahhh, that's great! Hate when a bag is uncomfortable to carry :(

  12. This whole marble thing...I have a marble floor. Maybe I should use it for product shots now.

  13. Lix, you really should! Marble is great because it's so clean and pale (white marble anyway) yet there's 'movement' so it doesn't look as stark as a plain white backdrop. x

  14. Very impressed that you have downsized to a clutch, Jasiminne! As for the matching marble bank card, I didn't know you could personalize the Barclays ones so am going to get my thinking cap on for mine
