Let It Blo, Let It Blo

June 02, 2015

Channeling my inner Queen Elsa with a Disney-worthy updo from the new braid menu of Blo Blow Dry bar.

I offer only apologies for my recent radio silence and no real explanation beyond that the not-so-merry month of May has been very difficult and taken quite a toll on me - my crown was afflicted by stress-related alopecia, not that you could tell from how lush my hair remains (re-manes?). My alopecia was discovered only when my meticulous stylist at Blo divided my mop into sections for a blow dry - and there it was, a little coin-sized bald patch hidden under seemingly endless layers of thick, dark hair. I would be more distressed if I didn't know that my hair is already growing back over the bald patch - and it's growing back blonde! For a second I squirmed with glee, fantasizing about my regrown, single pale streak (would that make me more Princess Anna than Queen Elsa?) until a quick Google search informed me that the hair would go back to its natural black. Oh.

Like Frozen, this blog post has fabulous hair, a brief tragic chapter, comedy, and finally a happy ending. One of the latter being the discovery that there is an elegant updo for my insane mane that allows wiggle room for untidiness and also makes me look like Queen Elsa - the aptly named 'Crowning Glory', one of three braids from Blo Blow Dry bar's new braid menu.

Before the braid: more dozy princess than ice queen.
There were three choices on the braid menu; Go Fish - a sea-inspired fishtail braid, Fall In Love - a romantic waterfall braid better suited to those with a fringe or didn't mind have hair pulled back from the face, and my Crowning Glory. I chose mine for the novelty factor of having my hair up and off my shoulders, also so I could later whip off my braid to Let It Go.

Blo is North America's original blow dry bar and they've crossed the pond to set up shop in Covent Garden, London. True to the American spirit of fast-paced super-convenience, Blo brings to London their Breakfast Club, a before-hours service between 7-10 am where you get a breakfast with your blowdry. Also on the menu is their Blo On The Go with in-house styling at it's most literal - in your house. There is also of course the braid menu (of which I am apparently the first in London to try out - go me!) for the Pinterest-lovers who are less 'blow dry' and more 'boho chic'.

  6. Thank you Angie! Better than a blow dry bar - this one comes straight to your home! And feeds you breakfast! (Although sadly not breakfast at your home, but I'll tell Blo to get on it ;) x

  11. Jesus. You and your hair looks ah-may-zing. I never know what to do with my hair, since it's always in that awkward mid-length where it's not long enough to tie but annoying to let down! haha!
