PPQ Private Sales Evening

Yesterday evening I coerced---the soft power of gentle persuasion is the way forward---Diana, Nichole, and Josh to come with to the PPQ Private Sales Evening at The Sanderson. Pre-ordering next season dresses at sample sale prices and trying them on in the comfort of a hotel while under the influence of bubbles, that's the way shopping should be.
Lemon and lime; two of your five a day. Be sure to take a bite. Diana and Nichole doing the 'booty pop' in gowns from PPQ S/S '14 'Atropa Bella-donna'.

Started From The Bottom Now My Whole Team Here: Paris: Day 3 Pt.2

Eager to leave Paris in a blaze of glory (and a cloud of pain) India, James (HK/The Freshmaker) hit up a dive bar and four clubs after dinner. This is us at Titty Twister while the night was still young (and our faces were still fresh).

Started From The Bottom Now My Whole Team Here: Paris: Day 3 Pt.1

(I shall split the events of Day 3 into two blog posts, lest it become too protracted an affair. I'm all for virtual escapism, but even so, 100+ photos from one day is a little tedious even for me)

A door India and I liked, somewhere along Boulevard de Magenta (10th arrondissement). A proper 'outfit post' aka 'What My Whole Team Wore' to come.

Despite calling it an early evening the night before I didn't actually fall asleep until six in the morning. However I refused to let our last day in Paris end with a meek, demure whimper---we were going out with a bang. If I had to be carried to the Eurostar on a stretcher so be it. It was do or die. Go hard or go home.

Started From The Bottom Now My Whole Team Here: Paris: Day 2

Well, Paris was certainly off to a promising start. The evening before was exciting enough (not including details I would rather not mention in writing), it was only raining mildly on the morning of our second day (an optimistic outlook as apparently Paris rains more than London), and I was barely feeling hungover nor ill despite only three hours of sleep. The same could not be same of India, who throughout the day slumped into our cars' seats while I dragged her across Champs-Élysées and the 1st. Halfway through the day we swapped energies, I was practically face down in my dinner while she skipped off to the bar to drink from flaming pineapples.

Started From The Bottom Now My Whole Team Here: Paris: Day 1

Even the best laid plans---and my plans are nothing but such, you'd never see me charge into battle unprepared or heaven forbid do so and then moan about the less-than-desired outcome---can come crashing down on you like Jenga bricks. In my case what was to be my Paris trip with Max complete with detailed, themed itinerary was all for vain when he was waylaid in a war zone for another week or so (no biggie) rendering him quite unable to partake in our friendly rendezvous. However, when God shuts a door he opens a window, or rather I simply kick the door down, so rather than cancel my stay in Paris (never order a non-flexible Eurostar or apartment with strict cancellation. Just don't) I asked India to come with me instead. And so she did.

"If you escaped what we escaped you'd be in Paris getting f-ed up too!"

Beautiful brutality: 'BRUTAL' by Lazarides & The Vinyl Factory Opening Night

Yesterday evening I headed down to 180 The Strand for the opening night of BRUTAL by Lazarides & The Vinyl Factory. "A BRUTAL show in a beautiful building for brutal times" said Steve Lazarides of this showcase of savage paintings, murals, film, dynamic installations, and dance interventions all of which I missed---apparently there was a man dislocating his shoulders for the amusement of all and sundry, which Diana exagerrated "He'll break his arms if you ask him to!"---but for a glimpse of a topless man in a gas mask casually wheeling his bike past.
I ran into good friends, acquaintances both new and old, and had a brief flirtation with a very handsome presenter with an illustrious career who obviously I'd never heard of because I live in a self-centric bubble. Oh and there were also very important art industry people who asked me what I did. I may have definitely said "I'm an illustrator who also draws comics but I'd really like to try my hand as a director!" and then showed them an Instagram video I took of my Romanian gypsy sisters and Jess twerking against a wall to Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 in motorcycle helmets and brandishing tools. It is art! How is it any less bizarre than the wares on display at the exhibition?!

Seize The Day Bed by Billy Zane

With my 'brah' Billy Zane...he's a cool dude.
Yesterday I ticked one thing off my bucket list.
I met Billy Zane and confessed that whenever I give anyone advice I do a Zoolander and say "Listen to your friend Billy Zane. He's a cool dude." Strictly speaking that line has nothing to do with me giving advice, (it made even less sense when I said it to him) but I like to do it anyway (And this is why I'll never be cool, I'm too lame for the game). It's one of my personal favourite movie scenes. That shiz be i-c-o-n-i-c.

I Have To Rant But I'll Try To Be Succinct and Eloquent.

*UPDATE (11 October 2013)* Source of said rant is now published! Read Week 2 of Audaciously Yours HERE.

Warning; bit of a rant ahead.

My father Whatsapped me yesterday. He'd just bought the latest issue of The Heat and 'Week 2' of Audaciously Yours (I'll publish it on the website tomorrow) was in it. He chided me about how I made a not-very-subtle but beautifully illustrated dig at someone we know. I was going to feign ignorance but this is my father, I have more respect for him than to act dumb, so I just assumed my favourite stance---moralistic high ground---and told him how the 'dig' a) was not about a person but rather a common and pervasive attitude of my contemporaries b) how art is a mirror and c) what you take from it (interpret it) says more about you than the artist, or even the art itselfWhich is all true but I felt a bit like a smug twat using 'art' as an excuse to, well, basically make snide observations about people who make snide observations about me...
